Community Updates & Resources

Ever since AltEn ceased operations at its facility in Mead in 2021, the AltEn Facility Response Group (FRG) has been voluntarily working under the guidance of the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE).  The AltEn Facility Response Group has stabilized the AltEn site, developed a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) for water stored at the site and is developing a RAP for the onsite solids. This work is helping the FRG to ensure the safety of the surrounding community and environment. To date, there has been no evidence of impacts to local drinking water.

You can see community updates shared by the FRG below.

The FRG is working diligently with the NDEE to identify the most effective and safest methods to address the current environmental conditions on the AltEn site. The remedial action plans (RAPs) are designed to recommend remediation for components remaining on-site, including wastewater, sludge, and wet cake.

The NDEE has two online information directories with information about the AltEn site situation:

• The NDEE public information portal

• Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy public records portal. Enter “84069” in the “DEQ Facility Number” field to access AltEn records.
