Another Year of Major Progress
Catch up on highlights and actions taken by the Facility Response Group (FRG), under the guidance of the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy and Environment (NDWEE), in 2025 – as well as a look ahead to 2026.
December Community Meeting: 2025 Achievements and Look Ahead to 2026
On Dec. 9, ERM Newfields Consulting Partner Bill Butler spoke at a community meeting to provide an update about progress at the AltEn site, an overview of the Lagoon Solids Remedial Action Plan (RAP) and other site activities planned for 2026.
October Community Update: 2025 Progress
With the arrival of colder weather, the FRG notes progress following the year’s busiest months with updates on former wet cake area grading, Fall land application and the latest groundwater results.
September Community Update: Wet Cake Removal Complete
All wet cake that had been on site has been removed, with more than 165,000 tons transported to the landfill. As has been done in prior years, land application of treated water is on track for this fall.
August Community Update: Wet Cake Removal Nears Completion
More than 155,500 tons of wet cake have been transported off the AltEn site. Total removal is expected to be completed in August, pending weather. Additional land application of treated water is on track for this fall.
July Community Update: Site Progress
More than 127,500 tons of wet cake have been removed from the AltEn site, with solidification now complete and total removal to be finished this summer.
May Community Update: Wet Cake Progress
Progress marches on with more wet cake removed from the site. This month also includes an update about groundwater monitoring results.
March Community Update: Progress Resumes at AltEn Site
Much progress has been made during the winter months, especially in preparing wet cake to be moved off site this Spring. The FRG will soon resume removing wet cake from the AltEn site as weather permits. Additional updates this month include progress on subsoil sampling, groundwater monitoring and key dates in 2025.
